Joy didn’t set out to become a wedding cake artist. She set out to make people feel something, and somewhere between flour, sugar and a deep love for the people around her, a calling took shape.
Chapter One
Born from Cakes of Joy
It started with birthdays. Then baby showers. Then the moments in between when a friend needed something made with love. Joy had been baking under the name Cakes of Joy for years, each order a labour of care, each cake a small gift sent out into the world.
From her home on the South African coast, surrounded by sea air and an unhurried rhythm, she honed her craft one tier at a time. She taught herself the art of cake making from tutorials and instinct. She learned structure from trial and a fair amount of error. And she never once made a cake she wasn’t proud of.
Word spread quietly, the way good things do in small communities, whispered at school gates and shared in WhatsApp groups. And slowly, inevitably, the wedding enquiries began to arrive.

Weddings of Joy was born from a conviction that weddings deserve something extraordinary, not just beautiful to look at, but meaningful to experience. Joy spent two years quietly dreaming about what it would look like to devote herself entirely to this one, significant day in a couple’s life.
The transition wasn’t just professional. It was deeply personal. Each wedding cake she makes carries genuine care for the couple, for their marriage, for the years ahead. It’s a practice that keeps her work rooted in something larger than aesthetics.
Today, Weddings of Joy serves couples across the region and beyond, from intimate garden ceremonies to grand venue celebrations. No two cakes are the same. And that’s entirely the point.
